WHAT IS THE MOHAHVE HISTORICAL SOCIETY

It is a non-profit organization formed in 1964 whose members research, record, teach, and publish the history of the people and communities of the Mojave Desert area.

The Historical Society chose the spelling “Mohahve” from the journal of the noted military leader and explorer John C. Fremont who explored this area during 1843—1844.

HISTORICAL SOCIETY GOALS

  • Educating residents of the area about historic places and events that are in the greater Victor Valley.
  • Documenting the recent history through oral interviews with long time residents.
  • Preserving historical points of interest.
  • Exploring the entire Mojave Desert region.
  • To collect and preserve historical documents, relics, antique items, and artifacts. (Artifacts are obtained from local long time desert residents and not collected from public lands.)
